Biosurfactant production by Phialemonium sp. using agroindustrial wastes: influence of culture conditions Biological Sciences
Camerini, Felipe Vieira; Chanin, Carlo do Amaral; Borba, Carina Molins; Costa, Jorge Alberto Vieira; Burkert, Carlos André Veiga; Burkert, Janaína Fernandes de Medeiros.
Biosurfactant are surface active compounds with emulsifying capacity and are produced by microorganisms, and they may be affected by factors related to microbial cultivation, such as pH, salinity, incubation time, carbon and nitrogen sources. The aim of this work was to study the influence of the culture conditions on the production of biosurfactants by Phialemonium sp using agroindustrial wastes. The processing parameters of temperature, humidity and pH produced the most significant effects on the production of biosurfactant and emulsifying activity. The maximum concentration of biosurfactant obtained in this study was equivalent to a surface tension reduction of 8.5 mg L-1 surfactin commercial solution using wheat bran, pH of 4.5, and 0.5% of soybean oil...

Effect of surfactants and temperature on germination and vegetative growth of Beauveria bassiana BJM
Mwamburi,Lizzy A.; Laing,Mark D.; Miller,Ray M..
Three non-ionic surfactants: Tween20, Tween80 and Breakthru® were screened for their effects on spore germination and mycelial growth rates and for their influence on three isolates of Beauveria bassianaspore germination at various temperatures. Tween20 and Tween80 were compatible with all the B. bassiana isolates in the germination studies, but inhibited germination at higher surfactant concentrations, irrespective of the conidial concentrations. Breakthru® had an inhibitory effect on germination even at the lowest concentration of 0.1% on all the B. bassiana isolates. The effects of the surfactants on spore germination did not correspond with their effects on colony growth. Conidial viability within the same formulation declined significantly with...

Effets létaux et sublétaux à long terme d'un nonylphénol polyéthoxyle, le NP 5 sur la civelle ArchiMer
Bocquene, Gilles; Miossec, Laurence.
Studying different concentrations, we have determined LT 50 of a non-ionic surfactant on elver eel: the polyoxyethylated nonylphenol NP 5. Then we studied sorne sublethal effects on fish behaviour and histological effects on gills, during 21 days. We demonstrated primary effects on gills structure and we believe in an impairing of the central nervous system.

FACTORS INFLUENCING THE RESPONSES OF Tetranychus urticae Koch (ACARINA: TETRANYCHIDAE) TO THURINGIENSIN Agricultura Técnica
Vargas,Robinson; Chapman,Bruce; Penman,David R..
The effects of temperature, host plant, active ingredient mobility, surfactant, residue age and larval age on the response of Tetranychus urticae Koch to thuringiensin were evaluated in laboratory bioassays. T. urticae larvae were significantly more susceptible to thuringiensin at 13°C than at 28°C. A significantly different response of T. urticae larvae to thuringiensin residues was found on peach and apple leaves. Older T. urticae larvae were significantly more susceptible than younger larvae when exposed to thuringiensin residues. No systemic or translaminar effects of thuringiensin were detected; the leaf surface (upper or lower) and the addition of Silwet L-77 surfactant did not affect the efficacy of thuringiensin. The use of thuringiensin in spider...

In vitro and in vivo evaluation of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as an inactivator of caprine lentivirus (CLV) in colostrum and milk Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Sousa,A.L.M.; Pinheiro,R.R.; Araújo,J.F.; Santos,V.W.S.; Azevedo,D.A.A.; Peixoto,R.M.; Souza,V.; Andrioli,A.; Damasceno,E.M.; Dantas,T.V.M.; Teixeira,M.F.S..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro and in vivo the effect of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on the caprine lentivirus (CLV) in colostrum and milk. This was performed to develop a practical and efficient method of blocking the lactogenic transmission of the virus. In the in vitro experiment, colostrum and milk were treated with 0.25%; 0.50% and 1% SDS. Then, somatic cells of colostrum and milk were submitted to co-culture with caprine synovial membrane cells (CSM). In the in vivo test, goats were fed with colostrum and milk provided from CLV-positive goats treated with SDS in the same concentrations used in the in vitro experiment. Animals were tested by nested polymerase chain reaction (nPCR) and Western blot (WB) assays. In the in vitro...

Potential of adjuvants to reduce drift in agricultural spraying REA
Oliveira,Rone B. de; Antuniassi,Ulisses R.; Mota,Alisson A. B.; Chechetto,Rodolfo G..
The reduction of pesticide spraying drift is still one of the major challenges in Brazilian agriculture. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of different adjuvant products, such as surfactants, drift retardants, mineral oil and vegetable oil for reducing drift in agricultural spraying. The experiment consisted of quantifying drift of sprayings of 18 adjuvants dissolved in water under controlled conditions in a wind tunnel. Tests were performed in triplicates with spraying nozzles type Teejet XR8003 VK, pressure of 200kPa and medium drops. Solutions sprayed were marked with Brilliant Blue dye at 0.6% (m v-1). The drift was collected using polyethylene strips transversally fixed along the tunnel at different distances from the nozzle and...

SPRAY DEPOSITION AT TWO GROWTH STAGES OF CATTAIL REA
Silva,João R. V.; Silva Junior,Antonio C. da; Pereira,Maria R. R.; Martins,Dagoberto.
ABSTRACT Surfactant use in spray solutions has a major advantage of reducing droplet surface tension and increasing deposition. We aimed to evaluate droplet deposition on cattail plants (Typha subulata) using food coloring (Brilliant Blue - FD & C-1) as marker added to spray solution at two different growth stages: vegetative (4 leaves) and flowering (5 leaves). The treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design with four replications and five plants per plot (16.2-L tanks). Treatments consisted of adding into spray solutions Brilliant Blue alone (control), Brilliant Blue + 0.5% v/v Aterbane and Brilliant Blue + 0.01% v/v Silwet. Spraying was performed by a pressurized CO2 sprayer at 220 kPa using two Teejet XR 8002 nozzles at a spray...

SPRAY RETENTION ON COFFEE LEAVES ASSOCIATED WITH TYPE AND CONCENTRATION OF ADJUVANTS REA
Cação,José E. da C. R.; Moreira,Bruno R. de A.; Raetano,Carlos G.; Carvalho,Fernando K.; Prado,Evandro P..
ABSTRACT Agricultural spray adjuvants (ASA) are widely used in pesticide applications to enhance the performance of pesticides. The aim of this research was to investigate the effects of ASA on static surface tension (SST) and foliar spray retention on coffee leaves. The SST of ASA at different concentrations was determined by the drop weight method. Spray retention on adaxial and abaxial coffee leaf surfaces was performed using a micro-sprayer at solution concentrations of 0, 0.01, 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0% v v−1. The ASA assessed were: polyether-polymethylsiloxane-copolymer (PPC); Nonylphenol ethoxylate; nonyl polyethylene glycol ether; mineral oil; nonylphenoxy polyethoxy ethanol; carboxyl copolymer of styrene and butadiene; primary aliphatic oxyalkylated...
